Details: | SUMMARY: Main leak meant higher flow rates DETAILS: Bob called to report that a landslide caused a 12" main line to start leaking last night. The leak caused their water flow rates to go up above what was approved in the tracer study. The leak was stopped after 1.25 hrs, but the plant kicked on for only 30 minutes of that (storage provided the rest). Bob wondered if there was any consequence for this increased flow, paricularly since the surface water treatment Excel sheet said they still met the required level of CT during this time. (This system usually provides ~100x more contact time than the minimum required.) They also collected coliform tests before and after the line break (no results yet), but the chlorine level was ~0.5 mg/L on both sides, which bodes well. ACTION NEEDED: No consequence for the system at present - the leak was fixed quickly and they have ample contact time. Bob will relay the results of the coliform tests. The spike in the flow rates (4993 gpm, versus the tracer study flow of 1900 gpm) will show up in the monthly operating report. |
