Details: 06.01.21 - Turbidity monitoring and reporting for a Ranney ground water well.

Yvonne contacted me inquiring about acceptable levels of turbidity for this water system. Specifically, the operator would like to know if raw-water from the Ranney well is acceptable when turbidity readings are between 0.3 - 1.0 NTU.

Per OAR 333-061-00329 (7)(J): If an infiltration gallery, Ranney well, or dug well has been classified as groundwater under this rule, the turbidity of the source must be monitored and recorded daily and kept by the water system operator. If the turbidity exceeds 5 NTU or if the surface water body changes course, such that risk to the groundwater source is increased, an MPA must be conducted at that time. Reevaluation may be required by the Authority at any time.

The system will continue monitoring and recording turbidity levels. I instructed Yvonne to contact me if turbidity levels exceed 5 NTU. At that point further steps will be taken per rule requirements to determine if the source is a ground water under direct influence of surface water (GWUDIS).
