Details: | SUMMARY: Response to HAA5 Disinfection Byproduct Max. Cont. Level exceedance DETAILS: Marshland exceeded the HAA5 haloacetic acid DBP Max. Contaminant Level (MCL) for the four quarters ending with the 4th quarter 2016. Bob indicated the cause as 1.) the need to manage levels of chlorination in system, and 2.) excessive storage time in the 50,000 gallon reservoir for the 30 home system. Response included: a.) installing a 12 gal/min recirculation pump at first user (plant) to send water back up to storage tank to move water through and decrease water age in tank, b.) flushing and exercising valves in distribution, and c.) managing chlorine residual levels in summer when disinfection requirements are less to decrease ability of byproducts to form. First quarter 2017 samples are lower for TTHM and HAA5, with MCL and Oper Eval Level met. System completed OEL report after 4th quarter 2016, and distributed public notice for HAA5 MCL exceedance. ACTION NEEDED: System to continue quarterly monitoring for both TTHM and HAA5, next due in May and August, and continue efforts mentioned above. | ||
