Details: | SUMMARY: Follow up on fluoride split sample discrepency DETAILS: Discussed 2nd quarter fluoride split sample results with Darryl. The Citys fluoride sample was off by more than 30 % from the DEQ split sample: City at 0.51 mg/L and DEQ lab at 0.2 mgL. Darryl indicated that City is using a new spectophrotometer method, TNT 878. City discussed with Hach company, manufacturer of unit, that both the zero and test sample need to both be at room temperature when analyzed, which was not the case in this recent instance. City will wait and allow the test sample to warm to room temperature prior to conducting the next sample, so it matches zero sample temperature. City ordering fluoride calibration standard from Hach. ACTION NEEDED: City to conduct analysis according to instrument guidelines. City will conduct another split sample analysis with DEQ lab in July 2017 (3rd quarter) to see if the results are within 30% of each other (maximum allowed discrepency). 9/20/17 update: After 3rd quarter split samples are more than 30% off, Darryl indicated that in addtion to above, City has ensured consistent glassware, and through discussions with Hach is confident in their sample analysis technique. City will work with DEQ to further review analysis technique, to try and bring split samples within 30%. 11/29/17 update: Darryl indicated 4th qtr DEQ split was 0.68 and the City was 0.66 mg/L fluoride, well within the acceptable range. |
