Details: | SUMMARY: CORROSION CONTROL ISSUES DETAILS: The Vale School District owns and operates the water system at Willowcreek Elementary School. The school has a groundwater system that serves approximately 80 students and staff. The school has a treatment system to remove arsenic. The system is an ion exchage resin filter. This system was installed in 2006. Ion exchange systems can often cause lead and copper corrosion issues. There is also hypochlorination for chlorine residual maintenance. The main building was constructed in 1954. The water pipe used was galvanized iron. Large portions of this pipe have been removed and replaced with PVC. The galvanized iron pipe was reported to be in very poor condition. The kindergarten building was constructed in the 1980’s. In addition to replacement of much of the old galvanized iron, the Willowcreek Elementary School has replaced fixtures in the kindergarten and 1st/2nd grade classrooms. The lead level was reduced, but the February 2016 lead level remained over the Action Level. The Circuit Rider was contacted to provide analysis of corrosion control options for the school. Finalized corrosion control analysis and recommendations. ACTION NEEDED: Provide further assistance if requested. |
