Details: | SUMMARY: Customer inquiry about arsenic in drinking water DETAILS: I responded to an email received on 8/4/17 regarding arsenic in drinking water from a resident served by the Sportsmans Park Water Association. I spoke with Bob Auxier the water operator about the customer inquiry. The newer Well 2 has elevated arsenic and is blended with the existing Well 1 to reduce arsenic levels before serving water. Mr. Auxier said Well 1 has been down for repair. Until the repair work is completed, Well 2 is being flushed and tested for arsenic. The water system is working to secure funding to repair Well 1 and resume blending. He said this may take 30 to 60 days. I understood the two wells are piped together before sending water to the storage tank and then to residents. He said there are no customers between the wells and storage. An arsenic sample collected on 7/12/17 at a customer tap below the storage tank measured 0.0101 mg/L. We discussed collecting future arsenic samples as EP-A below the storage to represent water being served. ACTION NEEDED: Confirm the well and storage configuration. Discuss monitoring arsenic quarterly and distribution of voluntary public notice to inform residents. |
