Details: | SUMMARY: Total coliform positives in distribution system DETAILS: Returned phone call from Marc about recent distribution samples collected that were total coliform positive. Avion is investigating the source of coliform which is not known at this time. The air quality is very poor due to smoke from nearby wildfires. Avion plans to continuously disinfect the affected area with a chlorine dose while maintaining service to customers. We discussed disinfection, residual checking and resampling. I emailed the OAR and AWWA references for disinfecting facilities. Samples collected during chlorination will need to be reported as "specials" as they do not represent water quality normally served. We also talked about notifying residents of the chlorination event. Marc said they have a list of sensitive customers. The positive samples were originally analyzed as specials. I asked that the lab results be amended to reflect routine samples. Amended reports should be submitted to the Data Management Program. Furthermore, positive routine coliform samples may trigger source water and repeat samples, in addition to a coliform investigation. I spoke with Gene Hubbard with Avion on Sept. 27th. He asked in they still needed to change the five special samples collected Aug 31st to routine. I informed him of my previous conversation with the managers of when it is appropriate to collect samples as specials. We reviewed the definition for special samples. The sites had not previously been used and will remain as specials. The evaluation of coliform in the distribution system is ongoing. |
