Details: | SUMMARY: Storage Tank DETAILS: The City of Barlow owns and operates a Water System which serves the approximate 135 residents in the City. There are roughly 50 connections. The water source is a well (CLAC 12939) located near the intersection of Maple Street and 1st Street. In 1989 an 80,000 gallon bolted steel reservoir was installed directly adjacent to the well. The exterior of the reservoir was re-coated in 2010. In February of 2017, the tank was inspected and cleaned by Inland Potable Services, Inc. The results of the inspection were that the tank was generally in good condition, but some deficiencies were noted and a leak was found and repaired in the floor.Met with Mike Barlow on site on 5/3/17 at 10:00 a.m. Inspected the exterior of the tank and found it to be in good condition, with a single rust/leak spot on the west side of the tank. Discussed with Mike the need for maintenance to correct the single spot in the short term, and the need to budget for extended interior sealing within the next ~5 years. Engineers estimate for spot repair is $7,500 and for interior sealing is $50,000. For reference, a new steel bolted tank could be installed for ~$175,000, which would be more expensive, but would provide the City with relatively maintenance free storage for many years. City water fees are relatively low. It was recommended that a rate increase be discussed to provide funds necessary for these recommended repairs. ACTION NEEDED: None. |
