Details: | The reason for my contact with Antelope this morning was originally prompted by a phone call I received regarding a concerned citizen in Antelope who noted very strong chlorine levels in their tap water. The new water system operator is the Water Master for Antelope, Cody Flecker. Rodney Shanks is the mayor now, and the phone number I had for Peggy Sue is no longer in service. I will change the contacts I have for this system. I noted that we currently do not have a total coliform sample reported for July. Box R Water performs Antelope's water system sampling and turns them in, and Cody said he would check up with them on turning in samples late in the month. I advised that taking samples late in the month does not offer the flexibility of if the sample couldn't be taken on the last week due to unforeseen circumstances. Box R Water may also be able to provide some information on if they have chlorine residuals noted from when they took heir monthly coliform sample. I asked him if he takes chlorine residual tests and Cody said he does it three times a week at the post office in town. I asked him what the ideal was or if he had a number given by the kit. He mentioned it's usually around a 1.0 and I advised we should work to find a ratio that is closer to 0.40-0.20. Cody uses a Hach test kit with Dpd tablets to test chlorine residuals, which is an approved testing method. I requested that he adjust the chlorine injector to a lower setting, and then subsequently check several locations in town what the chlorine residual is. I also requested that he document every chlorine residual he samples. We spoke about using chlorine that Antelope is using. He noted that they are using regular bleach which as of several years ago is no longer approved due to most commercial bleaches not getting NSF Certified. He called me back and had found a NSF 60 rated bleach online, but would go through Maupin Stoves and Spas to source NSF chlorine. |
