Details: | I called and spoke with Hans Feige to discuss the 3 positive Repeat total coliform sample results and Level 1 Coliform Investigation required as a result, as well as to discuss the current status of the water system's required disinfectant residual component. Olympic Forest Products has been working on installing a Disinfectant Residual component to their Water System. The difficulty, according to Hans, is that the groundwater source they draw from has high iron content in a way that adding chlorine to the high iron water may run the risk of possibly clogging the distribution system pipes, and possible precipitation. Hans says that a Water System Engineer evaluated the water system, and it was determined that either option they choose to go with will cost generally around the same cost range (potentially $30,000 - $40,000 range). Olympic Forest Products is also are looking possibly switching to a nearby Surface water source instead of their current Groundwater source. This will likely lead to additional disinfection and treatment requirements, but it will eliminate a lot of the iron versus chlorine conflict issue that may occur. Hans mentioned that he is going to visit the water system tomorrow to address some of these issues we discussed, and also mentioned that they are building new water lines from the pumphouse to the building which contains the bathrooms/break rooms. Hans says there were no discharge issues involving their holding tank/septic system. |
