Details: | A resident phoned regarding visible black flakes and particulates in his water. His gravity water filter also contained a lot of black. Although he had left a message for the Coos Bay North Bend Water Board, it had not been returned. I said I could contact directly someone at the water board in a position to respond, but that they would need more information from the caller in order to investigate and resolve the matter. The caller agreed to let me share his name and number with the water board employee. The next day (8/22/18), I spoke with CBNB treatment supervisor Jerre Cover, who contacted the resident. Jerre reported that the resident was not cooperative in helping to pin down/resolve the problem, and refused CBNBs offer to come out and investigate - for example, to flush out his lines, collect a bacteria sample, etc. UPDATE: I was copied on a 8/22/18 letter from this resident to the water board. He felt his complaint had not been taken seriously, though he states someone had been to his house that morning (CBNB distribution supervisor, Rick Abbott). Rick reported that the resident told them the issue had been resolved by then. The black particles appeared after he ran the outside water a lot, but he disagreed with the staffs suggestion that the hose could be the source because the particulates were also in the kitchen filter. CBNB believes it is an issue on the premises because they have received no other complaints and a board member on the same street has no problems. |
