Details: | A resident at Green Meadows Mobile Home Park complained about an iron-like smell and presence in their water, particularly with hot water. To try to determine if it was a water system issue or maybe a hot water heater issue at that mobile home, I asked if the iron smell and visibility (multicolored layer on top of the water) was present with cold water too; the complainant said it was. On 11/18, I called and spoke with the system operator, Bill Smith. I mentioned that I could not necessarily officially declare that it was iron, which is a secondary contaminant and not regulated to the same degree as primary contaminants, but since the odor/discoloration was visible with cold water, it may be possible. My call was just to discuss it with the operator. Bill mentioned that the mobile home park's water system(s) have had a history of seasonal, occasional transient sulfur smells over the years. Green Meadows MHP has 3 systems, and 3 different wells that channel through the same well house according to Bill. The complainant couldn't tell me which specific well(s) this resulted from. Bill told me he would collect some iron water samples from the Green Meadows system(s). I did not require this but mentioned he may if he chooses. |
