Details: SUMMARY: I notified the operator of req. for ongoing PH monitoring DETAILS: 4/26/06 Discussed the 9/23/05 lead/copper results with :John Potts. Although copper action level was exceeded in 4 of 5 samples, the samples was not representative because the iron treatment system was not on line. Another lead/copper round was collected on 2/21/06 with the iron treatment system in normal operation and all were well below the action level for both lead and copper. The raw water pH is approximately 6.1 - the iron treatment (calcite) normally raises the pH to 7.2-8.0. Much higher pHs (around 10.0) have been observed. To ensure that pH fluctuation does not occur and cause high lead/copper levels, I am requiring the operator to check the pH in the distribution at least once every two weeks. If the pH is out of the 7.2-8.0 target range, the system is to notify their contractor right away to adjust the system. I notified Joe Carson via voice mail that the 9/23/05 lead/copper round was found to be non-representative.
