| Details: | DETAILS: The City asked us to provide some direction and recommendations regarding another one of their spring intakes. The existing intake is comprised of a very old cast iron pipe, chicken wire, intake screen, and other makeshift components. The City wants to improve the intake and asked for input on what they might be able to do. Action Performed: Visited the site and hiked up to the spring intake. Inspected the piping which was broken in a few locations and on tope the ground in a number of locations. The intake is very vulnerable to contamination or intentional tampering. The diversion is in very poor condition. Only chicken wire and rudimentary screening available to keep solids and leaves out of the line or from plugging the intake. Discussed potential improvements to the intake system and suggested they use their small amount of available funds to improve the biggest and most productive springs first. As more funds are available, the smaller springs can be improved. ACTION NEEDED: Provide a written follow-up with some material recommendations for temporary or interim improvements to the intake we reviewed. Provide other assistance as required. | ||
