Details: SUMMARY: Water quality issues (TC positive samples) and low yield wells. DETAILS: PWS has had a history of coliform, bacteria contamination since 1998. I discovered that the wells have not been sampled at the well head to determine if contamination is coming from a specific well. I also inspected the reservoir and it appears to be tight with no observed openings. It appears that the wells cycle on after a 6 inch drop in the reservoir. Distribution line flushing is not performed on a regular basis due to low water quality issues. Actions Performed: I recommended that new sample taps, hose bib types, be installed at each well head and that bacteriological samples be collected at each well head. I also recommended that a flow test drawdown and recovery be conducted on each well. At a minimum a 4 hour test should be performed, although an 8 hour would be more beneficial and useful for system operation, but low well yield may inhibit that. The system has been approved by the DWP to install continuous chlorination down into the well to help treat the iron bacteria problem. I suggested that they install an air burst system to keep the injector from clogging up down in the well as they have experienced problems with above ground injectors previously. ACTION NEEDED: Prepare report outlining problems and possible solutions. I have attempted without success, to contact Mr. Miskowiec, system contact as he left the meeting early to return to work. I want to review some of the information provided by Mr. Louch who was a previous contact and is very familiar with the system. I want to provide an accurate accounting of the situation at the system as there may be conflicting information as several people has been involved with the system in the last few years.
