Details: SUMMARY: MCL exceedence for PCE, EDB DETAILS: Bob came in to talk about Wells #5 and #6. Well #6 exceeded the MCL for Tetrachloroethylene in January 2007. Previously detections around half the MCL were found. A consultant did further testing, and a sample taken 15 minutes after start-up yielded results of 11.7 ppb (MCL = 5 ppb), but taken 5.5 hours afterwards, results were 3.3 ppb. The consultant will continue to work on this issue. For now the well has been turned off. I told Bob that we base compliance on quarterly sampling for one year, and if the average exceeds the MCL, then theyre in violation. He noted it, and said hed let me know what the city decides to do. Also, wells 5 and 6 have detections of Ethylene Dibromide. One taken from #6 in May 2006 was over the MCL. He will begin quarterly sampling ASAP, and said to begin the schedule for the 1st quarter 2007 is OK. They are especially interested in whats going on, because they were hoping to drill a new well, #9, near well #6, and of course to not want to draw up the contamination. Well #3 is nearby and in the same aquifer but has not had any detections. He will keep me posted as to what the city is doing. ACTION NEEDED: quarterly sampling of wells 5 and 6 (when used) of tetrachloroethylene and ethylene dibromide.
