Details: SUMMARY: Discussion of alternatives - arsenic well or SW DETAILS: Joseph Auth and Kari met with Mark Edington and John and Carolyn Crawford to discuss the options for their water system. They have Arsenic levels exceeding the MCL (around 17 ppb). The is also high iron and salt in the water, and no one likes the taste. They have an old surface water source (creek) that they are considering. They have an easement at the intake but do not own any land. They have some sort of agreement with the landowner, a timber company, but he couldnt remember the details. I encouraged them to firm up any agreement they have, and protect as much from logging as possible in writing. They are considering slow sand filtration. They mentioned rapid sand filtration as an option, but I explained how much more complex it is, and told them that if they can do slow sand, it would be a better way to go. They have an operator lined up, Calvin Shulda who also operates Midland and Westport. Mark also reminded them that it would be best and easiest to hook up to Midland, which is only 1 mile away. They said that in the past that was no desired by the community. They have a district meeting on the 21st and will talk about a direction moving forward at that time. I told them about SRF loan money, and they are interested. I told them they can also use that money for preliminary engineering, since they will need some sort of study of the options. They also had HBH out there in November, but havent received a report yet. I told them Joseph and I would try to get that by the time of the meeting. ACTION NEEDED: proceed with getting off of high arsenic well.
