Reasons: Coliform
N/A

Details: SUMMARY: 3 of 4 repeats taken 1/8/07 FC positive (4 of 4 TC positive) DETAILS: 1/9/07: DHS-DWP called to notify of FC positive and sent alert. Spoke to Mel, contract operator. Lab called him to notify of FC positive. Told him I would call the association president Dave Munger to notify, instruct him to go on boil water notice and notify all users, and investigate cause of problem and correct. Mel informed by resident that during recent power outage, well no. 1 was put into service temporarily b/c it is the only well with diesel generator. As a result, he is unable to track with confidence coliform source (well no. 1 or 3). Mel said system doesnt always notify him when they turn on well no. 1. Left message w/ Dave Munger notifying him of the FC positive tests and need to do BWN. 1/10/07: Spoke to D. Munger. He has notified all users by phone. Asked him to do written PN . He agreed to do the PN and send a copy to me and DHS-DWP. He asked me to talk to operator about doing the PN also. Regarding coliform issue, he is going to work with Mel to make plan which will probably include chlorinating well no. 3 and distribution system. He mentioned that when it rains a lot and water table is high, this well has a lot of problems. He said well is shallow and seal may not be adequate. He also speculated that many homes have POU filtration after which coliform samples are pulled-- this may be causing positives since these filters are not changed regularly. I reminded him that while that may be, tests taken from the well head have been positive. We talked about switching the system off of well no. 3 and onto well no. 1 because it historically has not had coliform issues. He said that might be an option, but he wants to try and disinfect the system and well no. 3 first. ACTION NEEDED: A sanitary survey is scheduled for 1/11/07 with Mel. I will review the situation at that time.
