Details: SUMMARY: High turbidity water and FC+ DETAILS: Abraham (and Toby) asked that I accompany him to Restful Haven. A gravel pit uphill had been dewatered onto R.H. property, and their spring turned turbid shortly after that. DEQ looked into the dewatering but couldnt pursue it. RH and the gravel pit operator may get into a lawsuit. The lower spring had a turbidity of 121 NTU, and the well was 50 NTU. They say the well normally gets pretty muddy after it runs for a couple hours or so, then they shut it off. The lower spring is poorly constructed, needs to be evaluated for possible surface water influence or could possibly be called surface water. The upper spring appears to be constructed ok, but currently the pump is broken that pumps the water to the storage tank. Abraham and I collected 5 bactis, one from each source and 2 from the distribution. While we were there, RH was having a public meeting for the members who were there (15-20). They asked me to talk about the water. I told them it is important to not drink the water, to boil it or use bottled water. They asked for how long, and I responded that we had to wait until the spring clears up and a chlorine residual can be restored. Then the system should be super-chlorinated and flushed, flushed some more and collect bacti samples. Once negative samples are received, the boil notice can be lifted. I tried to stay out of the gravel pit situation, though it came up multiple times. ACTION NEEDED: see if spring clears up, chlorinate and flush.
