Details: | SUMMARY: E Coli Positive - Boil Notice DETAILS: Fred called to let us know the routine sample collected 10/23 tested positive for E Coli. The spring source had been turned in about a week ago, and this was likely the source of the contamination. A sample from the spring collected 9/27 tested absent, however the storage tanks for the spring are susceptible to contamination. I asked Fred to check for a chlorine residual at several locations in town. He checked and found no residual. It was decided then that a boil notice would be required. Most residents obtain their drinking water from nearby USFS Gold Center Spring, PWS #4194249, due to taste issues with the City water. A sample from Gold Center Spring collected 10/23 tested absent, so residents have a source of safe water. Fred will turn out the spring and resume using the well. Due to the distance to the lab, repeat samples cannot be collected until Monday. Fred and council member Paul Schnitzer checked the chlorinator and found it was not working. The chlorinator was working by afternoon and after running a couple hours there was a chlorine residual of 0.25 at the first user. I drafted a boil notice and faxed it to City Hall. ACTION NEEDED: PWS to distribute boil notice, collect four repeat samples. |
