Details: SUMMARY: Joe Carlson called to report that Eastgate Vet Clinic had a positive E. coli sample taken on 1-15-08 at the lab sink. DETAILS: I contacted the new operator and contact person, Alyson Yeager regarding the alert. Informed Alyson that the water system will need to take 4 repeat samples ASAP to confirm the positive E. coli sample taken on 1-15-08. System did not have a sampling plan so I put one together and faxed it to Alyson along with a microbiological sampling technique fact sheet and a boil water Public Notice template. I recommeded that they post public notice now even though it is not required yet and provide alternative water or boil water for all uses at the clinic. I discovered that the water system utilizes a disinfection system that was inspected during the April 20, 1997 Sanitary Hazards Inspection, but was not put on inventory in SDWIS. I asked Alyson to inspect, or have someone else inspect the disinfection system to ensure that is is operating correctly and to inspect the free chlorine residual log to ensure that there has been at least 0.2 ppm free chlorine residual. Asked her to test for free chlorine residual also. ACTION NEEDED: Wait for results of repeat sampling and/or further information regarding the state of the disinfection system from Alyson
