Details: | SUMMARY: Inspected water system and met with City Council. SOURCE SAMPLE AT SPRING TC -. DETAILS: Present during water system inspection included-- Mayor Paul Schnitzer, City Councilman Steve Smith, Grant County staff Ray Huff & John Combs. The City is using just the well at this time and not the spring. Bill Duyn and Brian Jackson have been maintaining and repairing the water system facilities. The plastic tank that the well pumps into had been repaired so that the access lid is sealed and surface water can not drain into the tank. The sodium hypochlorite chlorinator at the well is working, and a good chlorine residual >0.2 mg/l was measured in the distribution system. Improvements needed at the spring include-- installation of a "shoebox" type lid on the spring tank, provide adequate drainage by piping surface runoff away from the spring collection area. The City Council meeting was held at 5:00 pm and we reviewed the water system improvements needed, along with the administrative requirements the City needs to work on to establish a City Charter and tax base. After the City Council meeting, Bill Duyn, Brian Jackson, and I reviewed the spring construction on-site and collected a coliform sample from the spring tank. ACTION NEEDED: DWP to provide written recommendations for improvements at spring area, and provide contact information for League of Oregon Cities and administrative assistance through Sue Neustetter in Mt. Vernon. City to work on improvements to spring collection area. |
