Details: | SUMMARY: Initial contact due to a foreign object found in a reservoir DETAILS: Operator called to advise the DWP that during a routine sampling of the reservoir located at 13425 SW 154th Avenue, a soda can was found floating in the finished water. Due to water levels, the can could not be retrieved. Operator voluntarily isolated the reservoir from the distribution system, and took two bacteria samples out of the tank. The tank will not be placed back into service until the operator has received the results of the samples, and has had additional consultation with the DWP. ACTION NEEDED: I advised Greg Baird and Dave Leland of the situation, and discussed options for handling the situation. It was resolved that the DWP would recommend that the operator should contact law enforcement to determine if the incident was a result of vandalism, or if there was a credible threat to the system. If law enforcement felt that there was a credible threat to the system, additional steps to protect the public would need to be taken. Nothing further to be decided until after sample results were reported, and law enforcement had been notified. |
