Details: | SUMMARY: SSF plant shut down due to lightening strike. Back-up well (EP-B) in use. DETAILS: A lightening strike on Tuesday 16 June knocked out electronic controls for the slow sand filtration plant. The city is now using the back-up well EP-B. Chemical samples for the well were taken in 2008 but the well has been designated as Inactive emergency backup. It is expected to take 2 weeks to repair all the electronic equipment to get the SSF plant running again. ACTION NEEDED: The City plans to sample for IOCs from EP-B in 2011 to complete the 3 sample sets required to reduce monitoring to once every 9 years. However, the use of the well is limited to emergencies and the Inactive emergency source designation is still appropriate. |
