Details: SUMMARY: customer complaint DETAILS: I received a complaint 12/10./09 from an EWEB customer located around 2100 block of W 16th ave in Eugene. The complaint was regarding the taste and odor of her tap water. Customer described taste as chemically possibly tasting like "hose water". Customer thinks the water has Vinyl chloride and wants EWEB to test for this VOC. EWEB has responded to this customer complaints since May 2008. EWEB has a database they maintain for such complaints and has taken several steps including visiting the site, collecting samples for coliform bacteria, cconducting taste tests of the water, flushed mainlines, collected water quality data before and after flushing, communicated with EWEBs backflow program to ensure backflow devices are working properly. I discussed sharing the sample results as well as any backflow results with the customer, Steve said he will do that. Steve is visiting the site again today to collect more samples for taste testing. Customer may need to work with landlord for plumbing investigations. Customer can have private lab test VOCs but EWEB said they cannot pay for VOC testing at individual cusomters request. ACTION NEEDED: none at this time.
