Details: SUMMARY: Assistance with Iron, chlorine and coliforms DETAILS: The system has been experiencing high iron levels in the water coupled with low chlorine residuals. In December they had a positive coliform result at a time when chlorine residuals were low in the system. It appears that the problem peaks in the fall when the water table in the well is low, iron levels in the source water are high and water usage in the park is still high. The system has iron removal filters and chlorination points both at the well head and storage tanks. One of the problems is that the pre chlorination system at the storage has a very small day tank. We plan to switch the day tank with the system at the storage tanks which is much larger. The chlorine solution will be mixed at a stronger concentration to make a thankful last longer. The chlorine solution at the storage tanks is currently not being used. Mr Christian plans to get that system back in operation, at least when needed, as indicated by low chlorine residuals. He will start reading the master water meter at the wellhead daily to get an accurate idea of seasonal water uses. As water uses increase and the iron level increases, he will lower the backwash service time to keep filters runs to the same volume between backwashes. Once we have the flow rates and a new day tank, I will calculate chlorine doses so that he runs an optimal dose for iron removal. He is also going to look into a tablet feeder. ACTION NEEDED: Mr Christian plans to inspect the storage tanks and clean them if necessary and plans to shock chlorinate the system several times a year when chlorine residuals become hard to maintain, if other steps fail to work. We are going to check and see if we can find an affordable chlorine analyzer to help with control. I will continue to research the problem to see if there are further actions we could take
