Details: SUMMARY: Upflow Clarifier Upset DETAILS: The City of Idanha has a packaged water treatment plant consisting of a rapid sand filter preceded by upflow clarifier. A contractor had been working upstream of the intake on Mudpuppy Creek and the work resulted in a large amount of sediment being directed into the intake (and subsequently into the water treatment plant). HBH was contacted by Mr Benthin for advice as to the likelihood that the upflow clarifier media was damaged by the rapid influx of sediment. I visited the treatment plant to physically inspect the clarifier media and reviewed filter performance before and after the event. I recommended that the operator contact the local treatment plant representative who had recently installed the clarifier media. ACTION NEEDED: None needed at this time.
