Details: SUMMARY: Corrosion Issues in Water Treatment Plant Building DETAILS: The City of Gates recently constructed a new membrane water treatment plant. Metallic parts within the WTP building have been showing an inordinate amount of corrosion. This includes all metallic surfaces, including Aluminum, Stainless Steel and Brass. HBH was contacted by Mr Benthin to see if this is something that we had seen before in membrane plants. I visited the water treatment plant to inspect the corrosion issues, as well as look at the current vitalization system in the building and storage of the chemicals that could possibly be causing the corrosion issues. I discussed measures that had been taken by the City to attempt to limit the corrosion. Reviewed treatment plant chemicals and potential for corrosive reaction. I contacted membrane treatment plant manufacturers to determine if this was an occurrence that they had seen. Made recommendations to City to maintain proper ventilation of treatment plant building. I modified recommendations report. ACTION NEEDED: Provide further investigation if requested.
