Details: | SUMMARY: Blue-Green Algae Recreational Advisory DETAILS: A recreational advisory was posted today due to Blue-Green Algae (anabaena) found in Dexter Reservoir. I called Willy Hartwig to discuss follow-up. Willy already collected and shipped raw and finished water samples to the laboratory at UC Davis for microcystin and anatoxin A analysis. On 8/12, Betsy Parry conducted microcystin testing on the finished water using the DWPs test strips with Willys assistance. The test strips showed 1 ug/L or less of microcystin. The City of Lowell uses conventional treatment with powdered activated carbon and is therefore capable of reducing any toxins associated with the bloom up to 90%. As a result, we do not have any immediate concerns for public health of the users. ACTION NEEDED: Await results of toxin sampling and consider public notification based on those results. | ||
