Details: SUMMARY: Chemical pump output , pH Control Assistance DETAILS: The District owns and operates a water treatment system treating water from a well. The operator was having problems being able to feed soda ash solution to keep pH high enough for corrosion control and was concerned that his feed pumps were not working correctly. He had a new pH meter and was having trouble getting it calibrated. He also wanted some ideas on replacing the soda ash for corrosion control. I researched the metering pumps that they were using and found that we could install a larger pump tube to increase the output of the pump. I helped the operator install the new tube and also advised him that the pump was probably about to break down as it was leaking oil from the gearbox. I also helped him swap out the tube in the hyprochlorite pump. It appeared that the pump tubes had been in the pumps so long they were permanently flattened. Walked the operator through the calibration procedure on his new pH meter and gave him some advice on buffer selection. The operator also had one of his treated water delivery pumps burn up and wanted a second option on the quote he received from a plumber. I advised him against putting a submersible pump in his tank and suggested that he get a quote on having the motor on the old pump rewound. With the old pump back in place he would not have to rewire his control system and he would have a redundant pump in place. ACTION NEEDED: I will email Mr Richards some water vendor links such as USA Blue Book so he can get needed supplies a little easier. I will also research a passive pH control system so he will not have to deal with the soda ash and associated problems.
