Details:	SUMMARY: Well construction evaluation and nitrate DETAILS: I evaluated the construction of the well in August 2010 and gave it approval for conditional use, but the nitrate result was greater than the MCL, so I asked the WRD to review it and they said that given the inconclusive information in the well log and the fact that there is high nitrate in other wells in the area, indicating a regional issue not a well construction issue, we can not require reconstruction of the well. The system is going to add nitrate treatment, but from a source water protection standpoint I am concerned about the regional nitrate given that its in the deep basalt aquifer. I contacted DEQ and ODA. Paul Measeles with ODA is going to look into it some more. I also sent a letter to the water system informing them of my contact with ODA and suggesting if they have any staff that regularly drink the water they might want to contact the local extension agent for guidance on other chemicals, such as in pesticides, they might want to test for since the nitrate treatment wont remove other chemicals. ACTION NEEDED: ODA will investigate further and keep me in the loop.
