Details: SUMMARY: L&C Rule Asst DETAILS: System exceeded 90th %ile lead action level in 6/10 & 1/11 samples. June level was 0.0221 mgl and January was 0.050 mgl. System uses a blended phosphate for corrosion control (CC) installed in 1990’s. AquaMag was used for many years and switched out to Carus 8100 in 8/10. System was not conducting CC monitoring until late 2010. In late 2003 or early 2004, the system installed a Reverse Osmosis (RO) unit. Written correspondence in early 2004 between DWP, Hal Spence and Endex addressed plan review questions and concerns. The water piping consisting of new PEX plumbing serving faucets and fountains was only installed with the RO unit creating two separate plumbing systems within the school. Since the installation of the segregated plumbing system, all lead and copper testing has been conducted at sample sites treated by the RO unit. Testing was conducted 3/11 at three sites in the system: raw water, non-RO and RO treated water. The raw water has extremely high levels of alkalinity (>220 mgl). The pH level in the RO treated water is very low (5.8-6.0) indicating aggressive or corrosive tendencies. Treatment of the source water consists of pre chlorination, a 30 micron particulate removal filter, iron removal by a softener, calcium carbonate and hardness removal resin filtration and post chlorination. I recommended that new samples be collected to evaluate treatment options. I met with Benton Co to discuss options for compliance and review county files for historical information. I reviewed recent lead and copper results for specific sample patterns and met with Culligan, who service and maintain the treatment systems, to describe and explain the treatment processes at the school. I developed a compliance strategy to present to county. ACTION NEEDED: Meet with Scott at Benton Co on 4/4 to present strategy and determine course of approved action
