Details: SUMMARY: Positive coliform DETAILS: While off duty 9/3/11 I received a call from my office that Tom Mitchell had called stating this system got an Ecoli detection. I called Tom from home letting him know I would begin working on the issue. I called Kyle Dunnings residence and hi wife answered and directed me to Dave Gibbs o f M & H Pump Service. I called a nd spoke to Betsy Perry about a boil water notice and testing protocol. She informed me that I could decide based on information I received whether a boil water notice was warranted and that 4 repeat samples which should be a triggered source sample would be required. After I left two voice mails for Dave and a boil mail at the Dunning residence, Dave called me at 4:45 pm. He stated that a plumbing repair had been made to the storage tank and a leak was still occurring. Due it being so late in the day to grab samples and the nature of the population in subdivision from young to elderly, I decided it would be best to issue a boil water notice. I was notified at noon the following day that the boil water notice was sent electronically to Kyle Dunnign who in turn either hand delivered it or emailed to residence with a flag to respond that it was received. Dave stated this morning the he drew repeat samples, fixed the leak, then shock chlorinated the storage tank. He stated that a letter is being sent out to residents to run the water until they smell chlorine tonight 10/4/11 and tomorrow he will flush the system. He stated he has a test kit to check chlorine residual. I informed him that he should most likely draw a special sample in the distribution system to insure the shock chlorination had worked. I will send Dave an email reminding him of the requirement to draw 5 temporary routine distribution samples in November. ACTION NEEDED: Wait for sample results to determine if the boil water notice can be lifted.
