Details: SUMMARY: Detection of Xylene and Ethylbenzene DETAILS: I received an alert for Wickup Water District regarding a detection of 0.0007 mg/l for Ethylbenzene (MCL = 0.7 mg/l) and a detection of 0.0052 mg/l for total Xylenes (MCL = 10 mg/l) from sampling completed 12/21/11 for Entry Point A at the slow sand plant. I spoke to Dan Waterbury and discussed potential sources such as contamination from ambient air during the sample and requested that a confirmation sample be taken. A confirmation sample taken 01/20/12 did not show a detection for either contaminant. Historical results of annual sampling since 1993 have shown no other detections of Ethylbenzene and only two detections of Xylenes of 0.0007 mg/l and 0.0006 mg/l in Sept and Nov 1997, respectively. I spoke to Dan on 1/27/12 and explained to him that they could resume normal annual sampling. ACTION NEEDED: No further action needed - system to resume standard annual VOC monitoring.
