Details: SUMMARY: Copper AL Exceedence Assistance DETAILS: Jefferson Baptist Church operates a small school with approximately 100 students and 10 facility members. Water is supplied to the school from an on site well. Water is chlorinated and has a pH adjusted with soda ash, prior to storage in a 2,300 gallon tank. The water system has had a historical lead level exceeding the AL. The system has an existing soda ash system. In the most recent testing, the copper level exceeded the AL. HBH was contacted by the water system for assistance in reducing the copper level to below the action level. HBH tested alkalinity of the raw water to ensure that previous recommendation for use of caustic soda remained appropriate. Water system was having difficulty reaching target pH levels with the soda ash. Recommended temporary installation of spare dosing pump to see if this would allow for adequate pH adjustment. ACTION NEEDED: Provide additional guidance for water system as needed, including possible switch from soda ash to caustic soda.
