Details: SUMMARY: Because a positive E. coli in the distribution was noted in December avisit to site was made in response to a complaint filed bya renter in the duplex that is served by the Treats water system. Complaint was that the operator was dumping chlorine into the well every few days and that the renter and family had all had stomach aches. Also, the septic tank was always over-flowing. Visit was made to check chlorine residual in the distribution, verify complaint and determine if there were any sewage problems. DETAILS: It was noted by both the operator and Douglas County Environmental Health Specialist that there was no chlorine residual in the distribution. A boil water notice had been removed prior to collection of 5 temporary routine samples required this month. It was also determined by the EHS that the injector for the chlorinator was not working. Due to the lack of a residual, and not having the five confirmation samples, as well as the chlorinator needing to be replaced Treats was required to close. ACTION NEEDED: Treats operator will install a new chlorinator, run the water until a chlorine residual is detected at the furthest tap from the well shoot for a residual of .5 - 1.0 ppm chlorine, let the water sit in the lines over night. In the morning run the water and check for residual. Contact Environmental Health staff who will confirm residual throughout facility. If found to be in compliance Treats will be allowed to re-open with Boil water notice is to remain in effect until the 5 confirmation samples are collected this month. Treats operator is to test and record chlorine residual in distribution daily for one week and submit these results to county Environmental Health. County personnel
