Details: SUMMARY: Questions regarding total coliform positive triggered source sample DETAILS: I received a call from Francine Evans (who informed me that the conversation was being recorded) with questions on follow-up actions to a total coliform positive triggered source sample for Springs 1 and 2. The triggered sample was taken on 10/10/13 due to 3 of 5 temporary routine coliform samples taken 10/7/13 being total coliform positive. She said that Bill Goss (OHA) advised her to issue a Tier 2 public notice for the total coliform postive MCL for October, take the triggered source sample for springs 1 and 2, and collect 5 temporary routine samples in November. She said she flushed the system yesterday and issued the public notice, but was wondering if there was more she should do. I said that under the Groundwater Rule, confirmation samples were not required for the spring source and that since the Tier 2 public notice had been issued for the total coliform MCL, suspension of repeat sampling was allowed. After discussing the matter with Michelle Byrd and James Nusrala (OHA) in our office, I called Francine back to advise her to take at least one more routine sample in the distribution system at one of the sites with total coliform bacteria detected on 10/7/13 to see if the flushing corrected the problem. I told her I would notify Bill Goss and Amy Word (OHA) of our conversation and to touch base with Bill or Amy on Monday since they were both out of the office today. ACTION NEEDED: Take at least 1 follow-up sample in the distribution system to assess if the flushing resolved the issue and contact Bill Goss or Amy Word on 10/14/13.
