Details: SUMMARY: Nitrate sample from August 2013 above 50 % of the MCL at 7.5 DETAILS: The owner of this system is Mark Rose his operation does not make him available to have correspondence by phone so I spoke to the office manager Caroline. I was reviewing the system in SDWIS and noted that no samples had ever been posted. I spoke to Fred Kalish who conducted the plan and he found testing results and had them posted. This generated an alert but testing occurred in August 2013. I sent the system a letter reminding them of their requirement to test the system quarterly for bacteria and annually for nitrates. I spoke to Betsy Perry about the nitrate results. The system is very small and supplies bottled water for drinking because the employees dont like the aesthetic quality. We discussed that quarterly testing for nitrates in this case would not really provide any benefit to the system. The system is in the Willamette Valley Ground Water Management Area. It is not surprising that they have elevated nitrates. Caroline did confirm that she received my letter. She has contracted with Stutzman Services to have the system regularly tested. I told her I would follow-up with a letter reiterating our discussion about the public health effects of nitrates in drinking water and would supply her with the nitrates guidance document. ACTION NEEDED: Monitor SDWIS for bacterial and nitrate test results. Send public health information regarding nitrates in drinking water
