Details: SUMMARY: Update on actions following the confirmed EC+ last week DETAILS: Jymme finally phoned me back. They have contacted a professional well driller/pump person to bring their wellhead up to modern standards in the coming days. As a temporary measure, they caulked in all the holes in the wellhead and shock chlorinated the well and system last Friday evening (6/27/14). They left the chlorinated solution in the well & pipes for 12 hours before flushing. After that, they took down the Public Notice. They have not received any additional sample bottles shipped from the lab. I clarified to Jymme that they should have taken confirmation samples of the source water before shock chlorinating, and that they need to keep the PN posted until they have sample results showing that the water is now free of the contamination that we know was there last week. She can modify its contents to say what they have done in the interim, but a public notice needs to be up until they have sample results showing it is now coliform-free. I also found out the current population served by this PWS, and determined that since over half of their revenue is from retail sales, this store water system should be regulated by the Oregon Dept of Agriculture rather than DWS. ACTION NEEDED: Jymme will contact lab to ask them to ship more sample bottles. She knows to take 5 temporary routine samples this month (July). I believe, because of the inconvenience of shipping chilled samples from her location, that she will take all 5 temporary routine samples on the same day. When she gets the test results she will contact me, and we can determine whether to lift the public notice. The population number will be updated in our database, and I will suggest a change in regulator to the Dept of Ag in the future (after the current fecal water quality investigation has been resolved).
