Details: SUMMARY: One of 5 temporary routine samples was positive for total coliform DETAILS: I told Jymme she could lift the Boil Water notice because the 5 recent samples were all negative for fecal coliform, and no coliform was found in the well water. Of the 5 samples, one was positive for total coliform. She says that sample was taken at a house sink where she was unable to remove the aerator. Perhaps it is not a good sampling location? Because temporary routines are considered regular routine coliform samples, repeat sampling would be required now. But considering all the work that this system has been doing the last couple months, one could argue whether sampling 400 more mls of water this week (after taking 500 mls last week) is the most important focal point right now. The recent positive routine sample also means that more temporary routines will be required next month, so I suggested she could wait till early Sept to take more samples so that they would count for the 5 temporary routines needed that month. Meanwhile, she should consider whether to continue using the sample location with the unremovable aerator. The bacteria detected at that location could be coming from the contents of the aerator rather than from the water in the system as it arrives at that faucet ACTION NEEDED: Share this contact report with Jymme for confirmation of contents. Email her the template for the "situation resolved" Public Notice, and for the coliform sampling plan. The water system will collect 5 temporary routine samples in September, and update the coliform sampling plan as needed to avoid problematic sampling locations in the future.
