Details: SUMMARY: In office meeting to discuss lead remediation DETAILS: I met with Tim Love the system operator to discuss on going lead issues at the school. We looked through the system hard copy files for historical information. We found letters discussing the issue from 1995 and 2002. The letters discuss water quality parameters for Ph and Phosphate. The 1995 letter spoke to having Ph levels of in the 7.4 to 7.8 range, while the 2003 letter stated that Ph was set at 7.0 and phosphate at 1.0. We talked about utilizing the circuit rider program. Tim is also consulting with the OAWU. He discussed air injection to increase Ph. Currently there is no way to adjust the Ph. Tim has contacted HBH. This system has several years of 90% lead issues in particular areas of the school. The school was purchased from Corvallis 509 J in 2013.Tim wondered if regular flushing would reduce high nitrate levels, which could result in the ion exchange being removed. I told him that I doubted that would work as he in the ground water management area that has elevated nitrates. We discussed that source sampling would have to occur for one year, with results reliably and consistently below the MCL before it would be considered. Tim submitted special nitrate sample which came back at 10 ppm. He has agreed that flushing will not resolve the issue and that the ion exchange should remain. Since the installation of the ion exchange nitrate levels were tested at 1.4 and 2.3 ppm. The system breached the MCL at 11.3 ppm in 2012. ACTION NEEDED: Continue to work with Tim and HBH to resolve the lead issues. Continue to monitor nitrate testing.
