Details: SUMMARY: Lead remediation techniques DETAILS: This is an e-mail response from Tim Love regarding lead remediation at the Corvallis Waldorf School, I asked Tim to update me on conversations with Rob Henry at HBH:We did not come to a solution, per se, just that we reviewed the situation and tried to lay out a few possibilities. One such avenue we have taken in the meantime, was to increase the ortho level slightly (completely within the stated parameters already) to see if we get a detectable re-coating or surfacing in the pipes. The low management level of 1.0 maintained by the school district may not have been quite enough to prevent the leaching over time. The initial treatment level is recommended at 3.0 to coat the pipes with typical ongoing treatment level at 1.0 and above. As I have seen over the few months that I have been here, the amount of scaling debris flushing out of the faucets indicates significant loss on the interior of the pipes continually. Our next lead/copper test will show if the temporarily increased treatment level of 2.0 shows any positive change. If this does not effect a change in the test results then we may have to pursue pH adjustment measures. I am waiting to see if the next test shows a better result. If it does not, then we will look closer at soda ash, caustic soda or other system to bring pH to a higher regular level. Otherwise, everything else is in good order and I feel as though I am developing a good understanding of our unique system needs. ACTION NEEDED: Monitor orthophosphate adjustment and test reports. Monitor next lead test results to see if the orthophosphate adjustment was effective.
