| Details: | SUMMARY: Backfilling SSF with settled water DETAILS: I talked to Sophia regarding their capability to use unfiltered water from their settling pond to backfill the slow sand filter after draining and scraping. She said they have not used the settled water in this way since we had talked about our concerns a few weeks ago. There is still an unprotected cross connection - settled water and filtered water separated only by valves. They are working on responding to the water system survey. They had asked and gotten approval for a 60-day extension to send their proposal to resolve the cross connection using a drainline and valves with a detailed standard operating procedure. I added that we have concerns about using the settled water to backfill the filter at all, and she understands, and stated that the city would submit their proposal and it is up to us to approval or deny all or part of their plan. I told her I could not find any references that suggested using anything other than filtered water to backfill the filters, and asked her to provide any documentation they may have considered at the time they initiated the project. They will not use the settled water line to backfill until they submit their plan and hear back from us. ACTION NEEDED: The citys proposal is due November 17th. We will review and provide our feedback after that. | ||
