Details: SUMMARY: Alkalinity monitoring with lead and copper samples DETAILS: Albany will conduct lead and copper sampling this summer, and will need to collect water quality parameters (WQP) for both pH and alkalinity - the latter because they use soda ash at the Vine St plant. Karen asked if Albany should have the reduced # of distribution sites (7 sites versus 10) for WQP monitoring because they had submitted WQP data some years ago. The only distribution alkalinity data I found was collected when the system was still exceeding the action level for lead (2006-2007). We need data showing the WQP levels when the system is operating in compliance, in order to set a minimum alkalinity level. Informed her they need to collect WQP data from both EPs and 10 distribution sites this summer. One set of WQPs should be collected the same week as the lead and copper samples, and the other set two weeks earlier/later than that (preferably earlier). The distribution sites should be chosen to reflect water quality from both treatment plants-- she should also check whether the alkalinity at each EP tends to be much different, one plant versus the other, because they showed significant difference during one round of monitoring in December 2007 (but not at another time). ACTION NEEDED: Await results of WQP and lead and copper monitoring this summer. Set their minimum alkalinity level at the entry points based on these data.
