Details: SUMMARY: Lead and Copper Sampling and Treatment DETAILS: Discussed history of system using soda ash for L/C. System initially installed soda ash in 1997. Notes in the file indicate in 2003, there was an issue with the soda ash precipitating out and the operator didnt think it was working properly. The chlorine and soda ash were hooked up to the same injection tube (noted during plan review). Survey done in 2009 indicated the soda ash was not being used and the operator was told to reconnect it. System exceeded Copper in 2011. At that time it is not clear based on the contact reports if the system was using soda ash or not but they were checking the pH. Montie does not believe the soda ash changes the pH. At the survey in 2012 they were not using the soda ash, it was disconnected from the system. At that time we told him to reconnect it. At the deficiency follow up in July of 2012 it was noted that the soda ash was hooked back up to the system and the pH was still below 7.2. The next two 6-month rounds in 2012 were okay. After that Montie was convinced the pH wasnt being raised by the soda ash so he stopped using it but he still sent in his pH readings. For that time period it appeared as though they were using soda ash because they were sending in the forms but they werent, the pH was just high enough without the soda ash. Montie does not believe he was using soda ash during 2014 or 2015 and the results were below the 90%. Montie agreed to do 10 sample sites this summer to make sure the soda ash is not needed. If the results come back below the 90% we will keep him on a 3 year schedule at 5 sites. ACTION NEEDED: None.
