Details: A boil water advisory was issued out of an abundance of caution due to a routine monthly coliform sample testing positive for both TC and E. coli. Residents were notified of the advisory via door hangers and a phone blast. Repeat samples and a triggered source sample were collected today (12/11/23) and are being sent to Alexin Analytical Lab for testing. If these samples test positive, the system will issue an official boil water notice. UPDATE: 12/13/23 E. coli was detected in two of the distribution samples. A boil advisory is now mandatory. Jessica called to report the detections. Jessica is reissuing the boil advisory and will be ccing me when she emails it to OHA DWS. UPDATE: 12/15/23 The water system collected 5 confirmation samples directly from the well on 12/14/23. Two were positive for E. coli and all were positive for total coliform. I am referring the well to OHA DWS for evaluation to determine next steps. An L2 investigation on 12/14 found an unscreened well vent but no direct removable source of fecal contamination.

Update 12/22/2023:  The well evaluation was completed by OHA on 12/22 finding the well meets current construction standards. I spoke with Jessica about the compliance plan for the system. She said they are considering discontinuing use of the college park well and relying on the inertie with PWS 4101392 Penticton (also under a boil advisory due to E. coli confirmed in the dist). Jessica said she would let me know when this occurs and then they will collect samples in the distribution to see if the boil advisory can be lifted. Samples could possibly be collected on 12/26. The WS then plans to further evaluate the college park well to determine casing integrity and decide on a longer term compliance plan. We also discussed consolidating the two systems into one.

Update 12/28/2023:  On 12/22 the college park well was shut off. Water is being provided from an inertie with PWS 4101392 Hiland WC - Penticton. On 12/27 a special sample was collected near an inertie for the two systems and was negative for coliform. An assessment sample was also taken at both wells. The penticton well was negative for coliform and the college park well was positive for total coliform. The college park well will remain valved off and additional special coliform samples are being collected today 12/28 throughout the entire distribution in hopes of lifting the boil advisory for both systems.

Lifted 12/29/2023:  The MCMASTERS COURT WELL - MARI6821 has been shut off as of 12/22/23. All water for college park is now being provided by WELL - MARI6868 through existing inerties with PWS 4101392 Hiland WS - Penticton. Special samples collected throughout the distribution were all absent for coliform and water system has lifted the boil advisory and notified customers through a phone blast. Hiland water is required to submit a compliance plan by Apr 18, 2024 for using the college park well again. Until an approved plan is implemented, the college park well is not approved for use.
