Details: | The entire water system is susceptible to slugs of high chlorine concentrations above 4 ppm. That said, free chlorine was just under 1 ppm at the ends of the lines Tuesday morning.
The water system is posting an F.A.Q. and a Do Not Drink Advisory for their customers.
(This is a voluntary Do Not Drink order to keep customers safe from excessive chlorine concentrations. It is not required by OHA-DWS, but is recommended.)
The problem should resolve later this week by itself.
It could resolve faster with simple flushing, however, they cannot afford to lose much more water from their reservoir because the one well does not produce enough water for adequate flushing.
The good news is that this has sufficiently shock-chlorinated the mainline Distribution system. Therefore, the water system should be free of bacteriological contamination as long as the reservoir remains mostly full. Lifted 02/13/2024: Normal chlorine residuals measured throughout the water system. Clean coliform sample results. Reservoir water level steadily maintained. |
