Assistance Type: | OTHER WATER QUALITY - Concerns about upstream source water quality | ||
Details: | Peggy reported that the turbidity has been much improved - they only need to clean out their home filter once per week now rather than several times a day. She also has much better water pressure. I expect this change has to do with the new DRC operator helping Whaleshead staff replace the Giardia filter at the lower treatment plant (WTP-A), whose function may have been compromised. In addition, Peggy recently spoke to the WRD water master for the area, Greg Wacker, who said they should be concerned about actions in the Whaleshead Creek watershed following the 2017 fires. For instance, have they been using pesticides as part of replanting? Or the effects of fire retardants? She wanted to know how they could get their water tested, so I gave her contact information for the nearest certified lab, but said she would need to specify what chemicals she wanted the water to be tested for. Forest practice concerns are familiar turf for the handful of DEQ employees who work on protection of surface water bodies that serve as public drinking water sources. I left a phone message for Jacquie Fern at DEQ to look into this situation. |
