Details: | Background/Problem Identification: Evan Hofeld with OHA reached out to the circuit rider to assist the Kelly’s Brighton Marina water system with increasing contact time in their disinfection segment of the water treatment plant. Assistance Provided: Previously the circuit rider visited the water system and discussed options for increasing the contact time of the disinfection segment with E. Hofeld and Kelly’s Marina Staff. Baffling in the form of spray bar inlets on the tanks was discussed as well as the option to plumb the tanks in series. It was decided that plumbing the tanks in series was the next step to be taken. Once the tanks are plumbed in series then a retest to see if the system could gain additional contact time would be completed. Based on the theoretical contact time calculations below, plumbing the first small tank in series with the other two tanks would be the logical next step. Theoretical Contact Time: The theoretical contact time is calculated below. The disinfection segment consists of two 1,500 gallon tanks, and one 2,200 gallon tank. No contact time for piping will be used. Two options for plumbing the tanks in series are presented below. |
