Details: | The microbial sample collected at site #4 on October 7, 2024, tested positive for total coliform bacteria. The other samples collected on that date were acceptable. No E. coli were detected. Advised Joel that confirmation sampling is required any time a sample tests positive and that three repeat samples disinfectant residual measurements must be collected at the following locations: 1) One sample at site #4, the location of the recent positive sample. 2) One sample within 5 service connections upstream of site #4. 3) One sample within 5 service connections downstream of site #4. In addition, advised that the water system must collect one sample at the common header to the wells that were in use on October 7th. Recommended that the system collect these samples within 24 hours, if possible, but no later than 10 days from October 7th. Notified the system that if any of the distribution repeat samples test positive for total coliform bacteria, a level 1 investigation will be triggered, but since two level 1 investigations within 12 months triggers a level 2 investigation (which requires an on-site visit by the state), and a level 1 was triggered October 16, 2023, any distribution repeat samples might trigger a level 2 assessment. Update 10/14/2024: Emailed PWS to clarify that repeat samples should be collected within 24 hours of notification by the lab of the initial positive sample, and that DWS must receive the results within 10 days. |
